Her soon-to-release big ticket film: 'Charulata 2011'
Make no mistake, it isn't exactly a remake of the Satyajit Ray film.
Rather it is a modern take on the original short story 'Nashto-Niir' by Rabindranath Tagore, which Ray had adapted for the celluloid. This film by Agnidev Chatterjee also has a bored housewife as the protagonist who chats on Facebook, using the name Charulata 2011, with a virtual lover based in London.
Sometimes the dialogues and specific scenes in a film shine more than the scenario of the film itself, no?

Rituparna Sengupta definitely shines as the eponymous protagonist, and Arjun Chakraborty, Kaushik Sen and Dolon Roy fit their respective characters perfectly, and they all are parallels for their counterparts in the Satyajit Ray classic. I loved the tangential and oblique references to Tagore's 'Nashto-niir', and even the indirect attempts to rekindle our nostalgia for Ray's film based on the same.
However, I must say that Sanju's character would have suited Samadarshi Dutta (director Agnidev Chatterjee's original choice) a lot better than Dibyendu Mukherjee. Sudip Mukherjee - whose voice has been used to dub for Dibyendu - sounds attractive, mostly, but, at times, it fails to bring out the nuances demanded.
The music of the film is pleasing - two of the songs (one sung by Rupankar, and the other by Shubhamita) stand out - and the visuals are praiseworthy (barring too many discomfiting close-ups of Rituparna which could have been better avoided).
