The film stars Anjan Dutt as an ageing rockstar, and Parno Mittra plays the role of Ranjana, an upcoming singer who wants to be let into the inroads of music....... the trials and tribulations, the disillusionment, the disenchantment that threatens to tear her up, as she comes close to the real world of her idol, and her ultimate forging of a strange bond with him, is what the story of the film is all about.

Sudipta: She's yet to get her due!

Sudipta Chakraborty is one talented actress whom contemporary Bangla cinema has largely been unable to use. Though she had bagged the National Award (for Rituparno Ghosh's "Baariwaali" some years back, she is mostly seen in television soaps. Her screen outings are few and far between, and that too are mostly small supporting roles. I hope the directors take note of her abilities, and I sincerely hope she gets many a meaty role in the future.

Vikram: Making a splash with his debut

Vikram Chatterjee is might seem, to the uninitiated, yet another actor in Tollygunge, as he makes his silver screen debut with Arup Bhanja's new film, tentatively titled "Aalor Thikana", but the Bangla television audience have already been won by this guy since he started acting in the serial "Saat Paake Bandha".

The serial had got him a fair amount of fan-following, and now he is keen to be appreciated by the film-goers as well. Vikram is being seen in the party circuit every now and then, and the rumor-mills are abuzz with stories of his romancing actress Paoli Dam. They have been supposedly spotted together at trendy joints and nightclubs, and are known be quite an item pair.

Vikram has contract-bound with the makers of his debut serial but now he wants to aim big once his screen outing gets the much desired appreciation. He has acted in theatre in Mumbai, and has studied acting in Kishore Namit Kapoor's institute there. He does have gentle good looks and has a charming smile to set the girls' hearts aflutter.

Here's wishing Vikram all the best.... may he conquer Tollywood!:-)

Paglu (2011)

Paglu (2011) is the latest Dev-Koyel starrer.

Seems like Dev is in rocking form right now. He has been wooing the young guys and girls to the theater with all his films. And 'Paglu', ready for release, should be no exception. It promises all the masala, the very ingredients which go into the making of a mainstream blockbuster.

Dev and Koyel Mullick make a nice pair, and they look especially good in all the song sequences.
Directed by Rajib Biswas, 'Paglu' is the story of a young NRI girl who comes to Kolkata to pursue music and falls for a city guy. It is a romantic tale with lots of glitz and gloss thrown in.
The music is cool, and their picturisation in the foreign locales a visual delight.

The songs of 'Paglu' are quite catchy, I must say.
Mika Singh sung the title track along with Aakriti.

Shotru (2011)

'Shotru' is the new flick from director Raj Chakraborty. 

The title might make one think that it is the remake of the action-drama from the Eighties directed by Anjan Chowdhury that had the same name and that became a cult hit, but that isn't true. Remake it surely is, but Raj has again made a copy of a Southie superhit - as he did with many of his earlier films (eg. 'Chirodini Tumi Je Aamaar', 'Prem Aamaar', 'Dui Prithibi'). 'Shotru' (2011) is a remake of last year's Tamil flick 'Singam' that had starred Surya Sivakumar, Anushka Shetty and Prakash Raj. Incidentally, 'Singam' is also being made into Hindi with Ajay Devgan as the hero. In Raj's film, Bangla superstar Jeet plays the role of the brave policeman Dibakar Singha, with a larger than life persona, and Nusrat Jahan plays the girl who falls in love with him.
