happy HOLI

From the Indian Panorama 2013

Three Bangla films created quite the buzz being part of the Indian Panorama in 2013, but only two of them have been released last year.

2014 should see the release of the remaining one, namely 'Apur Panchali'......

It has won rave reviews already from the critics and cineastes who have been lucky to catch it at the festivals.

Directed by Kaushik Ganguly, 'Apur Panchali' stars Parambrata Chatterjee and Parno Mitra.

Beyond demises

Back....... after a long hiatus.
Last year, after the demise of Rituparno Ghosh, the master filmmaker, I personally felt a deep void and knew not how to carry on......

And this year, at the very beginning of the year, as the legendary heroine Suchitra Sen was bid the final farewell (she had personally bid farewell to the world of films and glamour long, long ago), I delayed my comeback here on the pages of my blog.

But in the world of showbiz, the show has to go on...... and films continue to capture our imagination and more. But first, here's as I have mentioned the two demises, let me also throw some light on these two favorites of mine.

Fresh Face Focus: Nusrat Jahan

Many would argue that Nusrat is hardly a fresh face.
But I believe that she is yet to be fully functional on the Bangla movie scene, even after her smashing debut in 'Shotru' opposite Jeet.

'Kanamachi'

'Kanamachi' is the eighth feature film directed by Raj Chakraborty who has given one hit after another but is usually associated with remaking successful films from down South (Tamil, Telugu). This one is a copy too, it is the remake of the 2011 Tamil hit 'Ko'. The Bangla version has Abir Chatterjee, Ankush, Srabanti, Sayani Ghosh, Rajatava Dutta in the cast.

'Aborto'

'Aborto', directed by Arindam Sil, is a whirlpool of emotions..... a tale of clashing concerns and upturned dreams.....

Fresh Face Focus: Farhan Imroze

Farhan Imroze has made it big on the small screen.
And he has tasted blood with a big screen cameo as well (in Mainak Bhowmik's 'Maachh, Mishti and More'). I hope he bags bigger offers and scores even big.

'Kidnapper' - a laugh riot

Don't think when I say,
KIDNAPPER is coming!
that I have something
sinister in mind.
On the contrary,
this film promises to be
a laugh riot.

'Bapi Bari Ja'

It's certified fresh! It an enjoyable watch for the youth!
It's the best Bangla film this season!

Happy Birthday, Konkona SenSharma!

Konkona SenSharma happens to be our favorite Bangali heroine
who has made it big in Hindi as well as English language films.
Here's wishing her the very best in life! Happy B'Day, Koko-di!

The Diwali release: 'Idiot'

IDIOT has not exactly created a bang, but more of a whimper!

'Paanch Adhyay'

'Doshhomi'

'Doshhomi' is quite a letdown of a film.

It had immense possibility to be a film worth watching.
But the execution has left the viewers unimpressed.

'Abosheshey'

'Abosheshey' ..............coming soon!

Roopa Ganguly had bagged a National Award for it.

She got the award for her singing though.

The film also has Raima Sen and Ankur Khanna in the cast.

Sadly, the film had to wait for such a long time for seeing the light of day.

Koel vs Shubhosree

Who is your favorite heroine - Koel or Shubhosree?

Koel has already established herself as the most successful leading lady in Bangla films today. And she has done both mainstream and parallel/middle-of-the-road cinema.

Whereas Shubhosree has won audience support almost overnight and has been part of several hit films, her pairing with Tolly-hunk Dev being the most talked about thing.

It's the season of the sequels which are NOT sequels!
'Paglu 2' just cashes in on the title of the hit film 'Paglu'
and it has the same hit pair of  Dev and Koel.

'Chitrangada: The Crowning Wish'

Rituparno Ghosh's latest offering - 'Chitrangada: The Crowning Wish' - is all set to release on the 31st of this month.
The film sees Rituparno facing the limelight again as an actor as well, after his successful acting forays in films like 'Memories in March' and 'Arekti Premer Galpo'. This time, he essays the role of a choreographer who plans to stage Rabindranath Tagore's cult musical named Chitrangada on the occasion of the bard's 150th birth centenary.
Incidentally, the conflict in his life runs parallel to the story of Tagore's creation in which the protagonist had not been eager to comply with her father's wish to transform into the prince of Manipur as her father, the king, did not have a male heir. Rituparno's character too refuses to conform to the conventions that include even the sexual identity that he tries to hold on to. The film also has Dipankar De, Raima Sen, Anasua Majumdar, Anjan Dutt and Jishhu Sengupta. The film has been produced by Shree Venkatesh Films.

'Awara'

Nothing to be proud about.

'Awara' brings us back to square one.
An uninspired remake.Yet again.
